Adventures in Minnesota

Like many families with school-age children, ours is acutely aware that these summer days together will soon be replaced with preparing for the upcoming year of scholastics. With that in mind, we unanimously decided to set out on some time together as we adventured off to enjoy each other in nature with all its greenery and beautiful surroundings.

First up:
Our road trip begins through the bucolic Wisconsin countryside. Of all the pit stops along the way our favorite by far is
Humbird Cheese……

What’s next:
Continuing north through the Lakeside communities of upper Wisconsin and Minnesota we take in Betty’s Pies…..

On through the little towns that speckle the Lake Superior coastline filled with shops containing treasures of all kinds and eateries of epicurean delights.

Destination:
Serenity and water sports in the US / Canadian Boundry Waters. The perfect and picturesque setting for fun activities we took in along the way:

  • Hiking the winding trails of Magnetic Lake to Granite Falls
  • Continuing a short distance beyond the falls (yet remaining in full view) to jump from the high rock ledge into the still and refreshing pool below
  • Exploring to find a stretch of beach where we stop for an afternoon picnic and some kayaking
  • Endless boat rides, kayaking, tubing, and swimming
  • Late night games, movies, and snacks after a nature scavenger hunt
  • Fishing expeditions in new territory
  • Drinks and delicious appetizers and food on the beautiful waterfront Gunflint Lodge Patio complete with a sandy playground for the little ones
  • A totally unexpected surprise and a major highlight of our trip was the 90th Annual Fisherman’s Picnic located in Grand Marais, MN.

Among the many food trucks and vendors our favorites were:

  • Lions Club Fishburger Truck
  • Wunderbar
  • Sven & Ole’s

and of course, World’s Best Donut!
